Onion for every kitchen

Onion can be discribed as the foundation of every modern cooking. Despite being a vegetable, it can also be regarded as a spice because of the aroma it adds to every cooking.

Onion belongs to the Allium genus of flowering plants and it comes in different colours which are:
  • Yellow or brown onion
  • Red onion
  • White onion
The red onion is the regular onion we all are familiar with for the day-to-day cooking.
Onion generally contains lots of vitamins and minerals which are healthy for humanity.
However, onions are toxic and therefore very harmful to animals like Dogs, cats and their likes.

Often times we complain about watery eyes whenever an onion bulb is cut open and for this reason, we tend to shy away when we are required to peel one.
The watery eyes is as a result of sulphur compound which the onion used to form Amino acid sulphoxide while still underground and this turns into gas.

The good news is that the watery eyes during slicing of onion can be prevented.
You can either
  • Soak onion in cold water for some minutes before slicing ,
  • Refregirate it alittle bit before slicing,
  • Boil it alittle bit for like 10sec before slicing.
Whatever method you want to use, will actually give a good result.

Benefits and uses
Onion can be used in various forms and methods and for different purposes
  • For meal cooking
  • As meal ganisher
  •  As an Anticeptic ( for boils, toothache, insect bite, wound healing among others.)
  • Onions controls blood sugar
  • Booasts human digestive health
  • It acts as a cancer fighting compound etc.
To get the best taste of onion in vegetable soups, onion should never be over cooked.
Don't forget that Health is Wealth.

Unavailing the Ehuru seed.

Have you wondered why our fathers of old didn't experience some of the illnesses we are experiencing today? Before the advance of technology, food preparation were based on crude ingredients. Natural sweetners, aromers/ flavonoids and spices were used in meal preparation and this helped them alot in living a healthy life. But in this modern time, technology has made feeding to be " easily difficult" for all. It is easy because we all can grab a sachet of this spice or that flavonoids and continue with our cooking. It is however difficult because we use more of this packaged stuffs which contains lots of chemicals  and some of these chemicals are causing health issues due to excessive usage.
